The EDT Department Curriculum Information about the EDT MFA, BFA & Vocational programmes
4YD BFA 1

The aim of the BFA 1 Year is to introduce all the components of live performance. The EDT Department courses comprise of Intro to EDT I & II and Safety in Theatre. By the end of the programme the student will have the necessary skills to act as a technical stage crew.

4YD BFA 2

The goal of the BFA 2 Year is to provide core technical skills in Lighting, Sound and Stage Technology for live performance. There are support studies in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Programming and Networking. An introduction to the theatrical production process is also covered through collaborative courses with other TEA students.

4YD BFA 3

In the BFA 3 Year of the programme, students are able to select a specific pathway covering six different options: Lighting Design, Lighting Technology, Sound Design, Sound System Design, Music Recording, and Technical Direction.

4YD BFA 4

The BFA 4 Year allows the student to continue studying their chosen pathway. By the time the student graduates, they will have the skills and understanding to fulfil the role of Assistant Lighting or Sound Designer, Assistant Lighting Production Electrician/Programmer, Assistant Sound Production Engineer/Programmer, Assistant Recording Engineer/Producer and Assistant Technical Director.

Vocational Programme

The Vocational Programme is structured around a common core curriculum plus major specific courses. The goal of the programme is to provide the student with a basic understanding across allied areas plus technical skills in the chosen major stady area. The major study areas are Lighting, Sound, Technical Management.
