BFA 2: EDT Case Studies 1 Welcome to the EDT Case Studies 1 course page

The EDT Case Studies 1 course is taught in Semester A to provide students with the opportunity to apply the core skills in lighting, sound and stage tech that they have learnt in the Fundamentals courses. The course is taught in the EDT Bethanie Annex campus and is taught on Monday mornings and afternoons.

In Semester A the classes are dedicated to lighting, sound and stage tech. They are scheduled around the Fundamentals classes to facilitate the opportunity to apply newly acquired skills.

Course Description

This course is composed of a series of lab projects that provide the opportunity for students to experiment with, and investigate into, the practical applications of Entertainment Design and Technology. The projects are designed to challenge the student’s understanding, critical thinking and problem solving skills, with regards to the application and implementation of Entertainment Design and Technology systems. Projects will be both one-day practical exercises and a project based on an observation and research exercise.

Students will have an understanding in the application, utilisation and operation of Entertainment Design and Technology systems as part of a collaborative creative process.

Learning Outcomes
1 Demonstrate detailed knowledge and comprehension of the skills and techniques required to set up and rig lighting, sound and stage equipment;
2 Comprehension and knowledge of the operation of lighting, audio and stage technology systems and be capable of adapting them to the requirements of the situation;
3 Analyse and identify key areas of problems and employ the necessary problem solving techniques and operational skills to resolve them;
4 Communicate effectively and in an appropriate manner ensuring the giving and receiving of precise information;
5 Execute skills in critical thinking, enabling the student to articulate and appraise practical projects, research outcomes, conceptual development and the final evaluation of the projects.
